What is the Securities License?

The Series 6 license allows you to sell investment company products (mutual funds, primary offerings of closed end investment companies and variable contracts.  Topics include: securities markets, investment risks and policies, investment companies, taxation, customer account, variable contracts, retirement plans, and securities industry regulations.

What are the steps in obtaining my Securities License?

There are a few prerequisites to meet in to obtain the Securities license.  A sponsorship from a broker-dealer (member firm of FINRA or a self-regulatory organization such as an exchange) is required.  Once your broker-dealer is selected, the sponsoring entity will submit the application for you, or in some circumstances provide you the necessary information to file the required U-4 application.

Because there are no prelicensing requirements, disciplined studying and preparation are a must!  We recommend at least 30 – 40 hours of studying in addition to our live exam prep weekend.

Once licensed, there are continuing education requirements that need to be met in order to keep your license active.
